Teaching Improved Methods of Tuning HVAC Control Systems

Project objective: Establish a method of applying control theory and equations for transient condition response to tuning actual HVAC systems operating in the field using readily-available hardware.

Project results:

  • Developed a simple, inexpensive method of collecting data in the field using calculators with data loggers or other hand-held data collection devices.
  • Developed simplified procedures for analysis of collected data in the field.
  • Developed and tested educational materials to train technicians on control system tuning.
  • Educational materials for use in your HVACR control classes can be obtained directly from NCME.
